Together with the new engines and the xDrive all-wheel drive system, BMW has been offering a range of new and improved equipment features for the entire 5 Series since spring 2005. The interior is even better equipped with special lacquered inserts and ruthenium silver trim on the climate control panel. The handbrake lever has been leather-trimmed, and the compartment to the left of the steering wheel has been enlarged and fitted with a cover. As a new option, the active backrest adjustment of the comfort seat is available especially for sporty driving enthusiasts. The backrest width and thus the lateral support are automatically adapted to the driving conditions. This adaptation is based on lateral acceleration and steering angle. Servotronic power steering is now standard on both the sedan and the station wagon.
